The zoo

Today we woke up late, and took our time getting ready, and headed for the Oklahoma City Zoo. I finally convinced Grandpa that I could drive, so I got to drive us to the zoo!

We got there it was very hot, we didn't find out until way later that it was really 110 degrees out. Not like in Maine, when we say it's 110 degrees out and it's really only 80, here it was really 110 degrees out.

I had never been to a zoo like that. It was really nice, and the tour guy said they has over 2,400 animals there. We saw everything, and instead of writing about it I'll just post lots of pictures.

























At some point, when we were all so hot we couldn't stand it, we realized that it was 110 degrees out and hopped on the little trolley that went around the zoo. Then we were going to go do other things after the zoo, but it was just too hot so we went back to the RV Park.

We weren't going to go see any fireworks because grandpa didn't want to drive in downtown Oklahoma City, but then we thought we knew where to go, so we set out to go see them. We were wrong about where to go though, so we ended up on some road with people blowing off thier personal fireworks all around us, and then we went back to the RV park and we could see the real show way off in the distance.

That was pretty much it.

Storm of the century

Last night we were rudely woken up by the most terrifying thunder and lightening storm I've ever seen. It started blowing rain inside the pop-up and I got soaked trying to figure out how to close the screen on the door. The thunder was so loud, I guess it must be because the land just streches on flot forever in Illinois.
This morning we folded up the wet pop-up, and fought with the trailer to get it hooked to the Rav4, then around 10 we set out for some breakfast.

We had probably the best meal we've had so far at a little place where everyone knew each other, and it suddenly dawned on all of us that WE are now the ones who talk funny.
After that we said goodbye to Illinois and headed for St. Louis to cross the Mississippi River for the first time in the girls and my life.

St. Louis had the arch that we took about 200 pictures of, it was fun to drive through to because we pretty much thought we were going the wrong direction the entire time, but it turns out we went the exact right way. So it all worked out.
Apparently the Mississippi is smaller in St. Louis than it is in other cities. I think if we hadn't been in stopped traffic on the bridge I don't even think we would have noticed that we were crossing it.

After getting through the city we started our adeventure through Missouri. The girls slept until we stopped at a rest stop, where we realized that we had lost power to the trailer. The hookup for the breaks and blinkers had been lost along the road. So then started our adventure to get that fixed. Which was basically an almost 3 hour affair. We pulled into Sullivan, MO and found a Goodyear that fixed it, but it took them forever to do it. We walked around Wal*Mart for a while, then had lunch at BK where we all took turns being Burger Kings and Queens. Finally at almost 4 we were back on the road to Oklahoma City.
Somewhere in Missouri Grandpa discovered that he could buy real fireworks. He got really excited about that, and bought a whole bunch. He was happy to be breaking the Maine laws.

And it was a very long road, but eventually we made it here and we drove past the campsite, but luckily the street was a short dead end so we turned around and found it. We had a small fiasco with the power to the camper, but after about an hour of set up we finally are ready to settle down. It's about 12:3o here, and we're all exhausted, but we're excited to spend tomorrow here in Oklahoma City, and possibly sleep in!
And for Uncle Glen, a cloud that looks like a tornado in Oklahoma!

The 14 hour stretch

Today we finished off Pennsylvania, then headed into Ohio where we found an unifinshed Ohio sign at a rest stop that looked good for posing. We drove past Cleveland and Columbus signs, and Grandpa decided that there were way too many trucks on the road.

After Ohio it was onto Indiana, which we pretty much drove straight through except for getting gas and bathroom breaks. We drove around Indianappolis.
Finally, 12 hours later we made it to Illinois, and like 2 hours later we made it here, to Mulberry Grove, IL. It was around 10 (central time), and we set up camp and now everyone except for me has crashed because I'm designated blogger.

The day was good, Casey did a lot of sleeping, Christie discovered Mario for her DS, and I almost slept through directions I was supposed to give.

There is some crazy lightening going on here.

I think I will join the rest of them sleeping.

Wireless-less

So I'm writing this Tuesday night, but you won't read it until I find a WiFi signal.

We left Maine around 5:30 this morning. We ignored Maine, and slept through Mass.

Hartford was a little exciting after seeing nothing but the Mass Pike for a while.

Then it was into the very bottom of NY where we had lunch at Taco Bell. Casey felt the need to photograph that.

Once we entered Pennsylvania, we figured we were almost here, but little did we know that it's the longest state in the entire universe. There were lots of "Are we there yet"'s from the girls. But eventually we made here to Woodland, PN. It's a cute little place with a pond and a playground. I think we're all just going to be happy going to sleep tonight. We're pretty exhauseted from over 12 hours of the car.





I'm just glad I don't have to sleep on the ends of the pop-up.. they scare me.. like we're gonna fall through or something.. haha.

Well, day one is pretty much over, just have to get some dinner and shower. I guess after that the girls want to watch a movie, but they will probably fall asleep within minutes of it being on.
